Buy an extra set of runners when purchasing a kicksled to swap out next season. It is recommended to switch out runners when old ones become scratched. 
 
Plastic runners can easily get scratched in the beginning of the season when there isn't a lot of snow. The scratches can make your kicksled feel a little sluggish. Consider having two sets of runners - one for when the conditions are ideal and one for when they are less than.
